Vikings host Hot Cowboys Squad

Vikings Defense is key for a win

The Dallas Cowboys (10-1, 1st NFC East) will come into US Bank Stadium looking to do something no other Cowboys team in history has ever done, record their 11th straight victory.  For the Minnesota Vikings (6-5, 2nd NFC North) their defense, which is ranked fourth best in the league, will be the key to victory.

Zimmer Up against Cowboys as a head coach for the first time

Former Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer leads the Vikings and their defense, one of the best in the league, has yet to allow a hundred vikings-4yard receiver this season.  The Vikings rank third in the NFL against the pass (206.8 yards per game) and fourth in overall defense (307 yards per game). Opponent quarterbacks are completing only 57.9 percent of their passes against the Vikings, third best in the NFL, and are operating at a 74.3 efficiency rate, second best in the league. The Vikes have also allowed the fifth fewest passing touchdowns (13) and have the third-most interceptions (12).

Vikings lose 4th straight

Cardinals fly into US Bank Stadium to take on Vikes

The Minnesota Vikings (5-4, 2nd NFC North) have very little time to turn things around and stay above .500.  While there is still time to take over the weak NFC North, there is no more time for a struggling offense that was locked out of the end zone in the second half last week against the Redskins.

vikings-3The Cardinals (4-4, 2nd NFC West) are coming off  a 23-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers. While not the most potent team in the league but the contest between Sam Bradford and Carson Palmer should be most interesting.

The Vikings will have to again use a patchwork offensive line but in the end they cannot use that as an excuse for not executing.

“It’s one of those things where we can’t make excuses,” guard Alex Boone said. “We can’t sit there and say, ‘Well, this guy’s new to me, this guy’s new to me, I don’t know how he’s going to play.’ That just doesn’t jibe in this league anymore. It’s going to be on us as an offensive line to pick things up quick this week.”

Vikings host Rams tonight

Young QB’s expected to get long looks

The Minnesota Vikings had it all working in their favor.  A bulked up team, a new sold out stadium and optimism to spare.  Then Teddy went down.  Enter Shaun Hill.

While Hill will probably not play tonight against the LA Rams, you will see a lot from  Joel Stave and Brad Sorensen, one of which could be under scrutiny from other teams looking for a backup.

In a move that really surprised no one, the franchise released veteran center John Sullivan after Joe Berger beat him out for the starting center job.

“Our entire organization appreciates everything that John Sullivan has done for this franchise,” GM Rick Spielman said. “Sullivan led our team, not only with how he played the game, but also with how he handled himself in our community. We wish John Sullivan and his family nothing but the best as they move forward.”

Vikings open preseason against Bengals on the road

The preseason is less than two months away and the Minnesota Vikings will be taking their show on the road for the first two preseason games, against the Bengals and the Seahawks before they return for the final two preseason games at home against the San Diego Chargers and the LA Rams.

The fact that the  Vikings made the playoffs last season for the first time since the 2012 season is an acknowledgement of the plan GM Rick Speilman and Head Coach Mike Zimmer have implemented is working.  Getting better through the draft and free agency, the Vikings are poised to take the NFC North again in 2016.

Vikings take Hall of Fame Game

The NFL is back and on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers in the annual Hall of Fame Game which drew a remarkable 6.9 share rating, the highest rated program that night and the highest rated Sports program all year.  In comparison, the Stanley Cup Finals Game 6 drew a 6.5, the NBA Eastern Conference Finals drew a 5.6 and Western drew a 5.4.  The Indy 500 drew a measly 4.3.

The Vikings won the contest 14-3 but the Steelers hardly played any starters.  Starters not playing included QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Le’Veon Bell, and receivers Antonio Brown, Martavis  Bryant and Markus Wheaton.

The Minnesota Vikings are a year into construction of their new arena and now news has come, surprisingly not from the Vikings, but from US Bank stating they paid $220 million for the right to use their moniker on the new stadium. The Vikings are set to open the new stadium next year.

When asked, the Vikings issued a ‘no comment’ to inquirers.

Vikings set at Receiver position

The Minnesota Vikings have completed their preseason with a perfect 4-0 record with victories over the Raiders, Cardinals, Chiefs and last night, the Tennessee Titans.  One thing is certain of this preseason…the Vikings are deep at the receiver position.

While it is certain that receiver Jerome Simpson has been suspended for the first three games of the season in response to a drunken driving arrest last November, the team still has Greg Jennings, Cordarrelle Patterson, Jarius Wright, Adam Thielen, Kain Colter and Rodney Smith.

The Vikings open the regular season on the road against the Rams.  Great seats and cheap tickets are still available so be sure to get yours now and cheer on your Minnesota Vikings.

Quarterback Position Cassel’s to lose

It would seem that the Christian Ponder era is pretty much over after three hardly inspiring season at the helm of the Vikings exemplified by last seasons nine games played highlighted by seven touchdowns to nine interceptions.

Over the summer, the organization drafted the 31st overall pick, Louisville arm Teddy Bridgewater and Cassel had a decent season in the nine games he played in completing 153 of 254 for 1,807 yards, 11 TD’s and nine touchdowns.  At 32, Cassell will be the bridge between the present and the future but rest assured, if he comes out stumbling, calls for Bridgewater to start will begin to howl in the North Star State!
